LAYERING LIGHT
By layering up light from different sources at different levels, richness and depth is added to a space.
Bring together the three key types of lighting - ambient, task and accent in varying combinations to create a
sophisticated and multi-dimensional scheme which will enhance any environment, bringing it to life and allowing for
variations in atmosphere and making it a pleasant and exciting place to be.
These layers can be broken down into different types:
• Ambient lighting • Low-level lighting
• Task lighting • Mid-level lighting
• Accent lighting • High-level lighting
It is not necessary for an installation to include all types of lighting for it to be successful. However, by using a
combination of these, it is possible to create exciting environments that people really want to spend time in.
AMBIENT LIGHTING
• General background lighting.
• Replaces natural daylight.
ACCENT LIGHTING TASK LIGHTING
• Focussed light for specific areas
• Provides points of focus, highlight and visual where tasks are carried out
interest which add depth to a space.
